are we there yet?

are we there yet?

There is a famous quote attributed to Lao Tzu that says, “If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.” Whether it’s in business, or any aspiration in life, we often have our eyes on the “prize.” Rarely does that prize live up to our expectations, and even if it does, it’s fleeting and we find ourselves looking for a new prize. The more conversations we have with women from all different backgrounds and experiences, the more it becomes clear that it’s the journey that matters. Or to put it another way, the prize is being with what is. Our plan during these last precious months of summer is to do just that. We hope you’ll do the same. Have a wonderful August and we look forward to seeing you in September.

With gratitude,
Jessica and Tracy

Today we are taking a look back at one of our most inspiring podcasts with the “Unstoppable Tracy Schmidt.” The last year has challenged us all, but this podcast is a reminder that we are much stronger and more resilient than we think. If there’s a will, there’s a way.

As we are continually challenged to alter our thinking, and pivot in our ever changing world, this podcast reminds us that adaptability is an important skill. As Darwin said, “It’s not the strongest that survive, it’s those that are able to adapt.”  A Slight Change of Plans, is the podcast about people that have faced huge challenges in their life and what they learned from the experience.

We doubt there is anyone who doesn’t know the iconic children’s television show Sesame Street. More than just a TV show, it was a cultural shift in the approach to children’s television. As a result, we’re all familiar with Jim Henson and the muppets, but what most people don’t know is this; the whole concept was the vision of one woman, Joan Ganz Cooney. Joan believed that television, when done right, could not only entertain children but educate them as well. This fascinating documentary tells the story of a group of people whose joy, dedication, and commitment to what they considered a simple program ended up changing the world.

Written by and starring Zoe Kazan, Ruby Sparks is one of our all time favourite films. Kazan’s co-star is also her real life partner, Paul Dani. The film looks at the true nature of love, or the illusion of the “perfect mate.” And that perhaps if you got everything you wanted, it might not make you as happy as you thought.

The One Hundred Years of Leni and Margot is a beautiful book about an extraordinary friendship. Seventeen-year-old Lenni and eighty-three-year old Margot are both dying. They meet in a hospital art class and start a project celebrating their one hundred years on earth. While this might sound morbid, it’s far from it. It’s uplifting, poignant, laugh-out-loud funny, and brilliant. Written by Marianne Cronin over a period of seven years, it’s an exquisite journey you won’t soon forget.
